Islands of Adventure

Today we went to Islands of Adventure.I had a blast there. The rides were phenomenal and thrilling.

My group went on the The Hulk, Harry Potter, Spiderman, The Dragon Challenge, Cat in the Hat, and many more. The hulk was the best roller-coaster to me even though I lost my earring. The best stimulator was the Harry Potter ride.

Keiser University

Today we visit Keiser University. It was a nice tour. The main majors they focus on is medical Which is the field I want to pursue.

The classes are relatively small about 12-24 people per class depending on the program. The classes run from 8am-1pm.At Keiser you have one class per month, so four classes per semester.

I really like the school it’s one of school of choices. It’s small and is a  hands on learning school. Also the tour opened my eyes in other professions as back up plans.

FAMU Dean

While visiting FAMU I learned a lot about law and the history of the school. FAMU was separate but equal in 1949 because blacks couldn’t attend Florida University. By 1968 FAMU had it’s last class graduating class. In 2000 the school was reestablished , and in 2002 it had it’s first incoming class.

The Dean spoke to us today about what is a lawyer and what a lawyer does. Lawyers are suppose to follow the law and make a positive change to society. All lawyers don’t have to work in a courtroom. There are many field’s of law; Civil, Criminal, Entertainment, etc.

In my opinion if you plan on studying law FAMU will be a great choice for you. They help you study for the bar exam, and give you practice on what to do in a courtroom. Go to FAMU to receive the education you need.

About Emory University

The tour to Emory University was a interesting experience. We learned the requirements and what the dorms look like.

Emory is very particular about their enrollment process. When we were playing the “GPA Game” we either had to move up or down depending on what your card said on the back. Your goal was to be the top three students out of the nine applicants to get accepted into the school. The things that will make you stand out is your GPA, extra curricular activities, letters of recommendation, and your optional essays.

The dorm rooms are small to be shared among two people ,so you have try your hardest to keep things tidy. You have the option of a suite (two rooms sharing a quad bathroom) or a dorm with a community bathroom. The tuition per year is $58,000,so you must try to apply for scholarships. Overall the school is a beautiful sight.

About Spelman

While visiting I learned about the requirements, history of the school, and the opportunities the school offer.

The requirements to get into Spelman are to have a minimum GPA of a 3.6 and a ACT score of 24. You would have a better chance of getting accepted if you have extra curricular activities and leadership skills. In order to graduate you must have completed 120 credit hours and the certain amount of credit hours for your major.

Spelman College was founded in 1881 in the basement of Friendship Baptist Church by two teachers in Atlanta, Georgia. The teachers who founded the school came to Atlanta to educate former enslaved women.

Spelman is the number one school to send African American women to medical school. The college offers a Bachelor of Arts degrees; Art,Child Development, Drama and Dance,Economics, English, etc. The Bachelor of Sciences are Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Computer and information Sciences, Engineering, Mathematics, etc. Spelman has a 80% four year graduation rate.

This is what I learned from the tour.

Touring CAU

On our tour to Clark Atlanta University the counselor gave us helpful information such as college readiness, history of the school, and the majors and minors the school offers.

Some people attend college but they aren’t prepared. You have to know what your goals are over the next four years. If you don’t that’s your time and money wasted. Some ways to prepare for college are to know the requirements, deadlines, and the programs that best fit you. Clark’s tuition is $19,488,room and board $9,422 ,and fees $1,612. Clark Atlanta is a private historically black university located in Atlanta, Georgia.  Clark Atlanta was originally two separate colleges, but combined in April 1988. Clark College was founded in 1869 by the American Methodist Church, and Atlanta University was founded in 1865 by the American Missionary Association. As the years go on there should be a higher enrollment of males attending college, so we can break the stereotype of black men not going to college.

The main majors and minors at Clark Atlanta are business administration, biological science, and  theater arts. While you are focusing on these majors it’s important to intern with someone in the field your trying to pursue. It will be better to intern year round, so the person in charge will know who you are, and that will give you connections than someone only interning in the summer.

This is what I learned while touring Clark -Atlanta University.
