First Day of College Touring

On the first day of the college tour the colleges we went to see were Atlanta Metropolitan and Clark Atlanta. Metropolitan was kind of boring to me. It wasn’t much excitement being there and our tour guide didn’t give much accurate information about the college. As for Clark Atlanta, I loved it! It was my favorite college to visit. The tour guide/counselor gave us so much information about the college and somewhat preparing us and giving us advice for  college. Me personally, Clark Atlanta would be my first choice when it comes the time to start applying to college.

Not THAT Busy, but FUn

After several hours on a bus we reached our first destination at Atlanta Metropolitan State College. I liked that the campus was small, but there were no dorms on campus to live in. Overall it was an okay school. Our next stop was Clark Atlanta University. We toured this college a few years ago and it still really catches my attention; I love that it offers biology and chemistry majors. Our last stop of the day was at The Varsity, it’s a very fast paced hotdog/ burger drive in restaurant. So all in all our first day wasn’t all that busy, but still fun.

Our Days in Georgia

Today we visited Atlanta Metropolitan State and Clark Atlanta. While I enjoyed every moment being at Clark Atlanta, Atlanta Metropolitan struck some of my excitement about the college tour down. It was our very first tour for the year and the tour guide did not make me excited about attending college next year. Although she was trying, many of our questions could not be answered and our tour was a little less than boring. The tuition was very affordable, but I could not see myself attending there.

However, Clark Atlanta did not disappoint me. I had previously been there with the college tour and they put on a show for us with there traditional “Panther Lean.” I had hoped to see it again but there weren’t as many students on campus than the last time. The tour guide did a phenomenal job though. He gave us information that not only applied to Clark, but to all colleges in general. His words of wisdom gave me something to think about as I enter my senior year.

We also went to Varsity, which is a restaurant similar to our Coney Island except larger. That got a thumbs down from me! It was not good at all but I guess the experience is what matters in the end.

Which college fits your needs?

The first of the college tour was very exciting. I was eager to look at colleges that I could possibly go to. I appreciate the opportunities that are presented to me through Franklin-Wright Settlements, especially the college tour. The first college we visited was Atlanta Metropolitan College. It was a very affordable college with the tuition a little bit over six thousand dollars. That is a very affordable college. It is a good college to go to if you are trying to go there to get your associates degree. The campus wasn’t too large, which was a bonus and they had a very calm campus vibe. The college didn’t offer a lot of majors, but it had all the classes to gain your required credits.

The second college was the wonderful Clark Atlanta University. This university is one of the most historic colleges in the country. It has a rich history and a culture that is incomparable. The campus is nice and everybody loves each other. They have a strong community vibe at Clark Atlanta. The university is a very nice that had a lot to offer. The tour guide for Clark Atlanta was an outstanding tour guide. He wasn’t just trying to recruit you to his school, he was telling us to choose the school that best fits your needs. He gave us words of wisdom that will be with me, especially when I decide on which college I am going to.

Second Day in Georgia

The second day of the college tour we went to Clark Atlanta one of the best schools we been to so far. It’s nice and big. Matter a fact it’s huge. The tuition for undergraduate is $19,488. You need a GPA of 2.5-3.2. Also a 20 act score or and 970 reading and math sat score.

There are 30 areas of study. Clack Atlanta is known for chemistry, biological science and business administration. $30,000,000 is awarded to 96% of CAU students. They also have division 2 sports.

Clark Atlanta University

Clark Atlanta University was a very good and big school. That school was well known for me and it was very interesting. I think I have my mind made up on deciding from schools it will definitely be added to my list. The classes that they have or are well known for is chemistry, social working, biology,  business and last but not least mass media arts. Mass media arts is the largest program at the school. Famous people like Bobby Valentino and many more has graduated from that program. I think its very interesting how we know famous artist, but at the same time we don’t really know much about them at all. They have very large alumni’s which is the best for all colleges. In order to get into Clark Atlanta you need a 3.2 or higher, or at least a 2.5 G P A. Graduation rates are needed, but usually all colleges offer associates and bachelor degrees and not all colleges apply the other degrees. Clark and Atlanta University were separate colleges, but have been combined. Clark University was founded in 1869 and Atlanta university was founded in 1865 around the end of the civil war. Where the Exclamation of Proclamation made it legal to get and education. Lincoln University was the first to give out Doctoral Degrees to African Americans. The freshman cinema is for all incoming freshman and freshman were they get trained for the real world. But overall I enjoyed this school it has all of my interest and i will keep this school on my list

College Should Be an opportunity for Everyone

Atlana Metropolitan State College
Going to a college or a university is a dream of many, including my self. Having an opportunity to travel to Atlanta, Georgia helps make that dream even more possible. The first two colleges that I toured on the Franklin-Wright Settlement College Tour were Atlanta Metropolitan State College and Clark Atlanta. Both colleges had good and bad qualities. But, it all depends on what type of person you are and what you are looking for in a school that defines these qualities.
In my opinion, Atlanta Metropolitan College (AMC) is a wonderful school if you plan on transferring somewhere else. It’s the type of school that if you don’t do well in high school you still have the opportunity to go the college. The credentials of AMC is a 2.0 GPA and either an ACT score or to just take the Compass exam. Which is a good thing if you did not do exceptionally well on your ACT. Tuition rate is $2,000 for out-of-state students. The classroom size contains 10-60 students. Having small classes can be helpful because it allows students to have that one-on-one time with professors.

The Good and The Bad

Today we toured 2 colleges,  Atlanta Metropolitan State College and Clark Atlanta University. They were completely different from each other. They gave me different insights on what information the tour guide should know and how different college campuses are from each other.
Atlanta Metropolitan State College was not what I am looking for in a college. The tour guide was unable to answer most of our questions and when she did answer our questions she often contradicted what she said before. Overall, I did not like Atlanta Metropolitan State College. I would not attend that school.
Clark Atlanta University was a completely different experience. Our tour guide told us more about college readiness than the college itself. He gave us a pamphlet that I would hope, answered all questions that we didn’t get to ask. We couldn’t actually tour the campus because of the weather, but he did provide us with awesome advice about choosing a college. I would probably attend Clark Atlanta University, but I would want to see the campus first.

Interesting Turn of Events

Reporting news from July 14, 2014 : Today we visited two schools, Atlanta Metropolitan State College and Clark Atlanta University. Although the weather was hot and somewhat unbearable, I learned a vast amount of knowledge from attending this university and college. Atlanta Metropolitan State College was fairly disappointing in my eyes. I was not comfortable or interested in this college. The content of the information given by the tour guide was unsatisfactory and confusing. I wish the college had more to offer , such as extracurricular activities or more festivities to introduce incoming freshman to the campus. The campus setting was bland , but a great fun fact! It is the most affordable college in Georgia.

In other news, Clark Atlanta University is my favorite school so far in this tour. CAU specializes in   social work, mass media, biology/chemistry, and business. Many different programs allow you to graduate with your bachelors and masters. This HBCU was created by two different schools : Clark College (1869) and Atlanta University (1865), which was founded after the Emancipation Proclamation. The most influential person, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., walked on their very campus and there is so much more history originating from this school. Our speaker/tour guide was a counselor at CAU and gave the most best advice to prospective college students. I learned : “Most important thing about college is graduating and the milestones you create afterwords.” When you go college , go for the right reasons and networking with people that will take you higher. I recommend applying to CAU , if its your college of choice, and build up your resume for your future . This is Teall Foster from College Tour Action News !
