Performance at Daytone Beach

Our last college was a tad bit unexpected. We were supposed to go to Stetson University, but with a turn of events we ended up at Keiser University. I learned key information at that school; I learned the difference between and regionally and nationally accredited school and which would be a better fit for someone depending on their field of study. They made the tour interesting by including icebreakers at the beginning and the end of the tour.

We also went to Daytona Beach! I really enjoyed myself and it happened to be the first time that it didn’t rain on us in years! We went in the boardwalk and found us a nice place to eat. We got to watch performers throw flaming sticks in the air on a unicycle! It was so exciting to watch!

Phone Stands to Go

After traveling for more than 8 hours last night we have finally arrived in Florida. Today we visited Florida Tech and Florida A&M college of law. I was pleasantly surprised by both of them. When we arrived at Florida Tech I began to judge the surroundings. Once we began the tour though, I learned that there was a lot about the school to like. It had many different programs; it was a school for all types of careers. Although I loved the school, I probably wouldn’t go to the school just because I want to go to a more prestige school and I want to go to a school that would let me continue my education up to my masters degree.

I had previously been to Florida A&M and did not like the school. I assumed that it would be the same a second time, but it was not. I was not aware that we were going to the college of law and even though I have no interest in pursuing a career of law I truly enjoyed the tour. We got to meet the longest sitting African-American Dean in the nation who gave us a lot of insight on practicing law. They also gave us phone stands! 😁

Florida Bound!

Today we only made it to one college, University of Georgia. The campuses in Atlanta are huge! University of Georgia is probably bigger than the town that I live in and it probably holds more people! It was self-guided so I was nervous that I was not going to be able to get all of the information that I needed. One of the students directed us on the tour and he did an outstanding job. He gave me plenty of information about the college. Now we are off to Florida!

Day One!

Today we visited Atlanta Metropolitan State and Clark Atlanta. While I enjoyed every moment being at Clark Atlanta, Atlanta Metropolitan stole some of my excitement about the college tour. It was our very first tour for the year and the tour guide did not make me excited about attending college next year. Although she was trying, many of our questions could not be answered and our tour was a little less than boring. The tuition was very affordable, but I could not see myself attending there.
However, Clark Atlanta did not disappoint me. I had previously been there with the college tour and they put on a show for us with there traditional “Panther Lean.” I had hoped to see it again but there weren’t as many students on campus as there were the last time we came. The tour guide did a phenomenal job though. He gave us information that not only applied to Clark, but to all colleges in general. His words of wisdom gave me something to think about as I enter my senior year.
We also went to the Varsity, which is a restaurant similar to our Coney Island except larger. That got a thumbs down from me! It was not good at all but I guess the experience is what matters in the end.

Three Colleges in One Day

Miraculously, we went to three schools and a historical site! We were able to visit Georgia Tech, Emory and Spelman! We also went to the MLK site where I learned a lot of information on the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, his wife, Coretta Scott King, and Rosa Parks.

Georgia Tech has been my favorite school down south since for a while now. I’ve been dying to come back and hopefully receive even more information on the prestigious university. I was a little disappointed though because we were not able to get a guided tour this year. I feel like I missed out on information that I need before applying to colleges in a few weeks.

Emory is absolutely breathtaking. The entire campus is fenced off, but right outside of the gates is the heart of Atlanta. With a $5.4 billion endowment, the college had been able to put a lot of their money into their students and their campus. Both the admissions director and the tour guide were exceptional. They made sure that we understood what we should be focusing on in high school to make ourselves marketable for colleges. The tour guide was very sweet, more than we deserved to be honest! She covered every inch of the campus.

Overall though, Spelman was the shows topper of the day. I DID NOT WANT TO GO TO SPELMAN. I had heard too many negative comments about the students and faculty of the school, but boy I am do grateful that we went! Our tour guide was absolutely phenomenal. She completely changed my view on the college AND she might be the reason that I apply when I get back home. She stressed the need for sisterhood and education. She was very informative and she was a newly graduate of the school! She knew more about her school than any of the other admissions directors could tell me about  their schools. They have a dual program for both engineering and nursing which are the two schools that I am interested in. Spelman was the winner of the day!
